How to request an Initial Edit

~ Contact me to tell me about your project:

    • Your story's genre or subject
    • A brief overview of your story
    • Whether it is completed or in progress and your estimated word count
    • Any deadlines required

~ For NO fee, we discuss your needs, your deadlines, and my schedule

~ Then, if you want an Initial Edit, I'll give you the details on submitting your file, how to pay through PayPal, and how we can proceed.

What you receive in an Initial Edit

An Initial Edit allows us to see if we are a good match as writer and editor.

  • You send the opening 3,000-3,500 words of your story.
  • I mark your file with specific suggestions.
  • I prepare an edit letter that both explains the suggestions I marked on your file plus gives in-depth guidance overall.
  • My Initial Edit will provide you with solid and actionable information to improve your story.
  • An Initial Edit is an edit of what you send, not a "sales pitch" letter, so it is charged at my normal editing fee (3-1/2 cents a word).

Fees and Payments

Editing fee: 3-1/2 cents per word, with a $100 minimum per submission. For example, if you send 3,000 words for an Initial Edit, multiplied by .035 = $105.00. Payments are accepted through PayPal. 

Confidentiality and Rights:

You retain all rights to your work when you send any material to me. I always maintain strict confidentiality of all client information. To read my (generic) Security Information, click page 1 and page 2.
